We support members of the Mayor's Coalition for Literacy through best practices consulting, resource distribution, facilitating monthly provider meetings, technical assistance, professional development and Mayor's Challenge Grant Funding.

Best Practices Consulting

HCL offers best literacy practices in three demonstration learning centers, located in areas of Houston where the need is greatest. Please contact us at any time if someone from your organization is interested in visiting one of our demonstration centers to learn various aspects of running an adult literacy center including, curriculum resources, data entry, center management, and much more.

Education / Certification Opportunities


Resource Distribution

Houston Center for Literacy distributes various resources to providers, including books, educational resources, best practices literacy manuals, and computer donations. Please contact us if your literacy organization is interested in receiving any of these resources or has resources to donate to other literacy providers.


Technical Assistance

We install mini-computer labs (5 per location) at Coalition member sites, consult on program launches for members, and distribute technology equipment. Please contact us if your organization would like to request technological assistance at   houliteracy@gmail.com.

HCL is Here for You

Are you part of an adult literacy organization in the greater Houston area? We would love for your organization to become a member of the Mayor's Coalition for Literacy, an association of more than 60 organizations in Houston. HCL provides support to members of the Coalition through professional development courses, classroom resources, Mayor's Challenge Grants, and much more.
