Learning Center Resources

We support members of the Mayor's Coalition for Literacy through best practices consulting, resource distribution, facilitating monthly meetings, technical assistance, and volunteer training and placement.

Please email resources@houliteracy.org with any questions regarding best practices consulting, provider meetings, resource distribution, and technical assistance for your literacy organization.

Best Practices Consulting

HCL offers best literacy practices in three demonstration learning centers, located in areas of Houston where the need is greatest. Please contact us at anytime if someone from your organization is interested in visiting one of our demonstration centers to learn various aspects of running an adult literacy center including, curriculum resources, data entry, center management, and much more.

Provider Meetings

We provide Coalition updates to members at monthly provider meetings. Click here for the event details of our next provider meeting. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding provider meetings.

Resource Distribution

Houston Center for Literacy distributes various resources to providers, including books, educational resources, best practices literacy manuals, and computer donations. Please contact us if your literacy organization is interested in receiving any of these resources or has resources to donate to other literacy providers.

Volunteer Placement

We help to train and place volunteers in provider sites throughout the city to assist with one-on-one tutoring, support teachers in the classroom, carry out clerical and other administrative work, and complete project-based assignments. Please contact us if your literacy organization is interested in having volunteers at your site. If you, or someone you know is interested in volunteering at a literacy site, please click to learn more about ways to give.

Technical Assistance

We install mini-computer labs (5 per site) in provider member sites, consult on program launches for members, and distribute technology equipment. Please contact us if your organization would like to request technological assistance.
