The Houston Center for Literacy Program Update:

The programs operated by the Houston Center for Literacy have experienced considerable expansion over the past several years and have exceeded our capacity. To keep pace with these growing demands, we will be shifting our direct delivery of adult literacy services to our partner organizations that are better positioned to support the adult learners who benefit from our programs. At the same time, the City of Houston will reaffirm the original mission of the Mayor's Read Commission which is focused on advocacy and awareness of adult literacy in Houston.

Stay tuned at the 2018 Mayor's Literacy Leadership Award Breakfast where Mayor Sylvester Turner will share his vision about the exciting future ahead. The proceeds from this year's Breakfast will support current-year adult literacy programs.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can make a difference for our Houston community!

Who We Are

Houston Center for Literacy,
a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is working to improve literacy rates by connecting literacy providers and resources to support adult learners.

Our Mission & Vision

In order to boost the economy of Houston, Houston Center for Literacy strengthens providers of adult education who, in turn, provide necessary skills for underemployed citizens to fulfill their potential and become economically self-sufficient.

We envision a city where every adult is equipped with the basic skills they need to qualify for jobs that will allow them to support their families and thrive as prosperous, independent, successful members of our society.
