What does a few hours mean to you?

Whether you can give two or six hours a week, EVERY moment counts. Houston Center for Literacy is proud to support 60 adult literacy organizations throughout Greater Houston. With this many locations, and so many different opportunities for volunteering, it is easier than you think to work the time into your busy schedules and to find learning locations convenient to your work and home.

The best part of volunteering with us...knowing you did something to help your community with the only thing we all equally have to give: our time and ourselves.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

  • One-on-One Tutoring
  • Helping Teachers in the Classroom
  • Clerical and other Administrative Work in Offices
  • Project-based volunteer time: Events, Fundraisers, Mailings, etc.

Volunteer Spotlight _Cathy

We'd like to thank Cathy Ritch for her dedication to serving our community and for making literacy a priority!

Cathy is a 2nd Level ESL teacher at Fair Haven United Methodist Church. She teaches English to non-native speakers and enjoys volunteering at Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) in their Resale Warehouse.

Who We Are

Houston Center for Literacy, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is working to improve literacy rates by connecting literacy providers and resources to support adult learners.

Our Vision

HCL strives to create a literate, prepared workforce by building high capacity, effective and top performing literacy agencies and programs throughout the greater Houston area. This work is done through best practice and resource distribution, advocacy, and volunteer training and placement.
